2 Things To Look After Your Mental Health

How do you process things during the day that cause you stress and anxiety?

Most people don’t have a system for dealing with it. They go to bed at night, toss and turn and wake up feeling un-refreshed and the issue is still there.

This issue may continue to grow into something that ends up impacting on your mental health!

To acknowledge Mental Health Week, I’d love to share with you 2 really simple ways to keep your brain happy and healthy.  This was taken from Beyond Blue’s chairman Jeff Kennett who featured in Conversation Hour on the ABC radio speaking about the topic of mental health.

Here are 2 things we need to do to look after our mental health:

1. When you wake up in the morning, give thanks for your life!

2. Work out a system that you can use, to deal with daily stress and anxiety.

E.g. Every night before you go to sleep, just for a second, wash out your brain of all the things you’ve done well and then focus on the things you’ve done less well or badly (in your opinion) and that have caused you stress and anxiety. Then… measure this ‘thing’ against the gift of your life and rate from 0-10.

This simple habit will often show you that the thing/s you are stressing about may not really matter in the scheme of things.

It’s also a bit like emptying the trash in your inbox

Hope this helps

P.S.  If there’s anyone in your life (friend, family, employee) who feels they want to do better with their health, please share this post. It might be the fresh perspective they need to feel better.
