Our brain changes our thoughts into thousands of chemicals every second…
And I’m hearing you… this is a pretty full on idea to grasp!
As Dr. Chopra explains…
Because we can change like quicksilver, the flowing quality of life is natural to us. The body is a river of atoms, the mind is a river of thought, and what holds them together is a river of intelligence.
It may seem like the quantum body is involved only in life-or-death situations, but this isn’t so. We live in it casually and without thinking, just as we live in the body as a whole.
I love this story that Dr Chopra tells, showing what we knew all along…
In his practice he had a patient who glimpsed this fact while sitting on the grass eating french bread and listening to her favourite music – Mozart.
She had been a frustrating case for more than 2 years. She suffered from a combination of nagging symptoms, including irritable bowel, headaches, fatigue, insomnia and depression which he couldn’t seem to cure.
None of these conditions are fatal, but they made her life miserable. Conventional treatment with anti-depressants and tranquillisers had done her little good.
Then one day she went to Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony and an idyllic place to have a picnic. She spread her checkered blue cloth, lay in the sun listening to music, and peacefully ate her lunch. These things made her very happy, and that night she slept soundly for the first time in years.
However, she was so used to being sick that this new event did not register on her.
Another year of misery passed, until it was time for her to go to Tanglewood again, and the same thing happened – all her symptoms disappeared for the day, and she slept beautifully that night.
This time it registered. She came to see Deepak waving sheets of printouts from medical journals on the SAD syndrome (Seasonal Affective Disorder) where people become seriously depressed every winter without apparent cause.
They now know that the cause has to do with the pineal organ, deep inside the scull, which responds to changes in sunlight. In certain people, not enough sunlight in winter throws off their pineal secretions, which produces too much of the hormone Melatonin, kickstarting depression.
“See” she said, “I’ve had SAD all along, and by sitting in the sun, I’ve got a normal pineal gland again.”
Deepak said “I’m sorry, but that disorder happens in winter.” Her face starts to fall and he added, “You’ve put your finger on something important though. Now we have a deficiency we can treat.” “What’s that?” she asked. “Picnic deficiency!”
And for the first time he’d known her, she flashed a genuine smile which lit her from within.
Her self-treatment continues to work. She regularly escapes the grey confines of her office building to sit in the sun at lunch, talk to friends and listens to Mozart. This is what works for her.
This may not sound like advanced medicine, and it isn’t, but the reason it works is this…
We need Nature to free up nature.
We are surrounded by the best of all healing influences – fresh air, sunlight, and beauty. Ancient physicians prescribed sunlight for all disease, along with a walk in the early morning and natural food. His advice will never grow stale.
There is good reason for all the ancient medicines to say that man is made up of earth, air, fire and water. Because the body is intelligent, it knows this fact, and when it returns to Nature it feels free. That feeling of freedom and joy is vital – it allows the inner and outer nature to blend
The same is true for the ‘quantum’ body. This is just a doorway back to Nature. We don’t need to explain it either, except for the sad fact that our intellect, tends to go against Nature, and it is our intellect that has done a very good job of blocking the door.
Does this resonate with you? Do you feel perhaps that you get so caught up in modern life and all it’s little facets (raising children, family, work and the technical world) that you have forgotten to get back to Nature and find that balance?
